For Veterans

Today is Veterans’ Day. The United States has been founded and proven by bloodshed from its men & women. Currently, the US military is involved in conflict in Iraq & Afghanistan. Despite the media’s outcry against the war, the soldiers fighting deserve as much accolade and thanks as any other conflict in our history.

So, to all the members of the US military – current and former: Thanks for serving.

Windy weather

Yesterday we had a thunderstorm sneak up on us. It had strong straight winds, and we even thought a tornado had touched down near our house. The storm destroyed half a dozen power poles and damaged lots of fences, roofs, and trees.

Changes, more of the same

Much has happened in the last two months, and I am determined to get it all down. Sarah finished school, and she was commissioned into the Army as a Second Lieutenant, drawing her 4-year undergrad journey – and ROTC cadet career – to an end. Her commissioning ceremony went smoothly, and I was honored to help her father pin on her new rank.

About a week later, we had our formal wedding ceremony at an outdoor venue in Oklahoma City. We had a great time, and Sarah looked incredibly beautiful… I was speechless! Afterwards, we stayed the night at the Colcord Hotel in downtown OKC. The hotel was glamourous and nice, and we enjoyed having a slow night to ourselves.

Sarah was supposed to start school for the Army in two weeks, but her orders have changed, and now we’re staying here for at least another 11 months. I started a job with the OU ROTC Battalion, working as a recruiter – active duty pay and benefits! The job is dull and unexciting, but I’m happy to have somewhere to work and gain experience.

The end is near

May is finally back, and the school year’s end is getting close. Sarah’s commissioning ceremony is just 9 days away, and we’re both very excited that she’s almost done with college. I have one more 3-hour Intersession class in May, so I’ll be done after the first week of June.

We have a ton on our plate, including the wedding ceremony and moving to Virginia for Sarah’s school. But, we’re taking it a day at a time!
